Kamal Hassan’s Thoongavanam has a stellar star cast and a surprise element.

Kamal Haasan has to be among the busiest actors in the Indian film industry now as he is occupied with multiple projects in various stages of production. Kamal Hassan’s Thoongavanam has a stellar star cast and a surprise element. While he has Papanasam and Vishwaroopam 2 ready for release, he has already started work on Thoonga Vanam where he shares the screen space with Trisha, Prakash Raj, Kishore, Uma Riyaz Khan, Sampath among others. Rajesh Selva directs the film.

We now hear from an authentic source close to the thespian that Yugi Sethu and Madhu Shalini have also been roped in for prominent roles in this Tamil – Telugu bilingual.

Yugi has already worked with Kamal in memorable movies like Anbe Sivam and Panchathanthiram and is known to be his close creative associate. ThoongaVanam/ Cheekati Rajyam is an action thriller with Ghibran’s music. It sure is a promising film in the coming months.

Actor Sampath who had made an impactful portrayal in films like Mirchi, Panjaa, Aaranya Kaandam, Goa and many more, is the latest addition to the Kamal starrer ThoongaVanam/Cheekati Rajyam .

In a brief chat, Sampath talks about how he is on board ThoongaVanam / Cheekati Rajyam.

Why we don’t see you in Tamil these days?

I have been listening to quite a lot of scripts in Tamil. I was clear that I want to do something substantial and nice. I was not keen on going back to do the same routine. Meanwhile my projects in Telugu also kept me busy. So when Rajesh called me for Thoonga Vanam, I was quite excited.

How did Thoonga Vanam/ Cheekati Rajyam happen?

Rajesh spoke to me some time back with a role in Thoonga Vanam/ Cheekati Rajyam. My fear was, what I will be doing amidst actors like Kamal and Prakash Raj. But when I heard about my role, I was quite thrilled.  Rajesh kept a track of my films and he said, after watching me in Aaranya Kaandam, he can’t give roles that are not substantial and impactful to me. He also said that he had no second choice for my role and wanted just me. When he mentioned this to Kamal sir, apparently, he also approved of it. I will be playing a very strong character in the film but can’t reveal details of it.

How do you feel to be working with the legend?

I told Rajesh, to share screen space with the legend like Kamal, in itself is a big feat. For me it’s like going to a premier institute.  I always aspired to go to an IIM but as I was not good in academics, I could not do that. But now, I would be going to a premier university of acting. There is not a single department in film making that Kamal is not aware of. I am happy and I will be joining the sets from Monday, the 8th June.

As reported a couple of days back Kamal Haasan would be teaming up with actor Saif Ali Khan for a Hindi film called Amar Hai.

Now the latest we hear from sources close to Kamal’s camp is that the Tamil version of this multi-starrer flick has been titled Thalaivan Irukiraan.

It must be noted that there were some speculations a few years back that Kamal would be teaming up with director Chakri Toleti for a film with the title Thalaivan Irukiraan, penned by Kamal himself. We still are not sure if Kamal would be reviving this project or is he just retaining the title.

It is speculated that Ravi Teja might be roped in to play the parallel lead in the Telugu Version of Thalaivan Irukiraan.

It is also said that Thalaivan Irukiraan will feature top actors from Tollywood and Mollywood. Is this a Tamil – Telugu bilingual, in addition to the Hindi version?
